How to compare power supplies

Your build decides how much output and which size you need, and price decides the rest. This page lists every power supply we track with a current offer in one table, with rated output, 80 PLUS rating, size, modularity, ATX standard and graphics-card connectors. Value is an optional ranking for what you ask of a unit; grades say whether it suits a use.

Start from the output your build needs

Add the graphics card's board power to the CPU and the rest of the system and keep a reserve. Value never rewards watts beyond what your use needs; the grade for each use says when a unit has enough.

Check the size before the price

Most cases take ATX units; small cases take SFX, some SFX-L. Filter by size first: an ATX unit does not fit an SFX case at any price.

Read the standard and the connectors

ATX 3.x units are specified for the short power spikes of current graphics cards, and a native 12V-2x6 cable feeds an RTX 40/50 card without an adapter. Both are listed for every unit.

Efficiency and warranty for long hours

80 PLUS Gold, Platinum and Titanium waste less power as heat; the difference matters most in a machine that runs all day. A long warranty is the manufacturer's own statement of confidence.

From the market to a shortlist

  1. Filter the market

Set your budget, size, rated output and 80 PLUS rating. Every filter shows how many are left.

  2. Pick what the build is for

Gaming, high-end GPU, small form factor or workstation: each sets starting priorities and shows the grade for that use.

  3. Compare side by side

Open two to four units in the compare view to see output, connectors, length and warranty next to each other.

  4. Check the offer

Every price is dated and links to the retailer's listing; the condition (new, refurbished, open box) is shown with it.

Questions about comparing power supplies

How many watts do I need?

Use the graphics card maker's recommended system power as the floor: about 650 W for an RTX 5070 / RX 9070 system, 850 W for an RTX 5080 and 1000 W for an RTX 5090. More output than that does not make a build faster; it gives headroom for an upgrade.

Does a higher 80 PLUS rating mean a better power supply?

It means less power lost as heat at the tested loads. It does not measure ripple, noise, protections or reliability, which is why the grades here never treat it as a quality score.

Do I need ATX 3.1 and a 12V-2x6 cable?

For an RTX 40 or RTX 50 card, a native 12V-2x6 (or 12VHPWR) cable is the specified way to power it; an ATX 3.x unit is also specified for its short power spikes. Older units can run these cards through an adapter.

What is the difference between ATX, SFX and SFX-L?

They are sizes. ATX fits most cases; SFX is about 100 mm long for small cases; SFX-L is 125–130 mm and fits fewer of them. Check what your case supports before comparing prices.

Why do some power supplies show no price?

We show a price only when a retailer we track lists the exact model with a current offer. A unit without one stays in the catalogue, but it is not ranked by Value.
