What we collect and why

1. Local storage (essential, no consent required). We use your browser’s local storage to save your preferences — “Value Engine” settings, custom items, pinned cards, and filters. This data stays on your device, is not transmitted to our servers, and is used solely to make the tool work for you.

2. Server / hosting logs. Our hosting provider (Cloudflare) may process standard technical data (IP address, browser type, timestamp) for security and to deliver the site. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in operating a secure website (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

3. Our own aggregate measurement (no third party, no cookies). We no longer use Google Analytics or any other third-party analytics service. Instead we count a small number of product events on our own servers: the type of event, the page path, the product category and item, the market, the store an offer link points to, the referring domain, a coarse device class (desktop / tablet / mobile), a country code, and the time.

What this deliberately does not do: it sets no cookie, builds no browser fingerprint, uses no advertising identifier, assigns you no persistent identifier across visits, and does not store your raw IP address. Nothing here identifies you, and nothing is sold or shared for advertising. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in knowing which parts of the tool people actually use (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

Cookies

Essential: the app stores your settings — Value Engine weights, custom items, pinned cards, filters — in your browser’s local storage. It stays on your device and is required for the tool to work.
Analytics cookies: none. We set no analytics or advertising cookies at all, which is why this site no longer asks you to accept any.

Third Parties

Affiliate merchants (Amazon, Newegg, eBay, etc.) — when you click an offer you leave our site; the merchant’s own privacy policy then applies. We do not share your personal data with them.

You have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict, or object to the processing of your personal data, and the right to data portability. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at contact@thecomparator.tech. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Estonian Data Protection Inspectorate (Andmekaitse Inspektsioon) or your local supervisory authority.
