How to compare motherboards

A motherboard has to match your processor and your case before price or extras matter. This page lists every board we track with a current offer in one table, with socket, chipset, memory support, slots and connectivity. Value is an optional ranking for weighing price against features once compatibility is settled.

Start with socket and chipset

The socket and chipset decide which processors a board takes. Filter by them first, and every board you compare fits your build.

Compare connectivity and expansion

M.2 slots, networking, Wi-Fi, memory slots and form factor sit in the same table, so you can see what a cheaper board leaves out before you buy it.

Compare current motherboard prices

Each row shows the cheapest current new offer and how many retailers carry the board. Open a row to compare retailers, or add the refurbished and used offers we track.

Use Value after compatibility is satisfied

Value weighs price against features among the boards that fit. Pick a use case or set the weights yourself, or leave priorities off to compare on price alone.

From the market to a shortlist

  1. Filter the market

Set your budget, socket, chipset and form factor. Every filter shows how many are left.

  2. Compare specifications and performance

Sort by price or by any feature column and read the grade for your use case. Switch on priorities if you want Value to rank the list.

  3. Save or compare candidates

Add products to the comparison to see them side by side, or save them to come back to later.

  4. Check current offers

Open a product's offers to compare retailers. Click any price to test an offer you were given against the same market.

Questions about comparing motherboards

What should I compare between motherboards?

Socket and chipset first, then form factor, memory type and slots, M.2 and expansion slots, connectivity such as Wi-Fi, and finally the current price.

Which motherboard fits my CPU?

One with the same socket, and a chipset that supports that processor generation. Filter by socket first, then by chipset.

Which chipset do I need?

The chipset decides which features a board offers (expansion lanes, number of M.2 and USB ports, overclocking support) and which processor generations it takes. Filter by your socket, then compare chipsets for the features you need.

ATX, Micro-ATX or Mini-ITX?

The form factor sets the board’s size: it must fit your case, and smaller boards usually have fewer slots and connections. Filter by form factor to match your case.

Why do some features show as not tracked?

When a retailer or manufacturer does not state a feature, we show it as unknown rather than guessing that it is missing. Filtering by that feature only shows boards where it is confirmed.

How often are motherboard prices updated?

Offers are refreshed as market snapshots; each offer shows when it was checked. Retail prices can change at any time, so confirm the final price on the retailer's site before buying.

What does the Value score mean?

Value is a relative score from 0 to 100 under the priorities you choose. Each weighted factor (features, connectivity, price and so on) is compared with the rest of this market, the factors are combined, and the best result in the current view scores 100. Turn priorities off to browse by price alone.
