GPU Tier List 2026: Graphics Cards by Gaming & Workload

GPU ยท Scenario tier table

Scenario Tiers grade engineering capability only (price excluded), while the Value column combines normalized price and capability using the selected weights. 59 in-stock cards evaluated as of . Click any scenario header to sort by that tier and recompute Value for your specific use case.

Each letter answers โ€œhow well does this product handle that job?โ€ โ€” price is never part of it.

Scenario Tiers show suitability and capability without price โ€” they don't move when prices or stock change. Value adds current price and your selected priorities. Read Sโ€“F tier grading methodology โ†’

Pick a resolution column (1080p / 1440p / 4K) and the Ray Tracing grade follows it โ€” RT tiers are measured native fps, and cards drop whole tiers as resolution rises. Upscaling adds headroom on top.

Swipe the table sideways to see every scenario ยท Tap a column header to sort by it (tap again to reverse).

Sorted by Value under the balanced preset. Tier letters never include price; the Value column does. A calculation, not an editorial ranking โ€” weigh it your own way in the GPU custom value calculator.

What each column means, and how to read a tier

Each column answers a different question, and a grade only means something inside its own column. A card can be S for one use and D for another โ€” that is the point of the table, not an inconsistency. Price is never part of a tier: the letters stay still when prices move, and the Value column is where today's price enters.

Reading a grade: S and A mean the card clears the bar for that use with room to spare; B is solid; C works with compromises; D is below the normal target; F means the card is not the right tool for that job. N/A is not a failing grade โ€” it means we do not have the data to judge, and we would rather say so than publish a confident-looking letter.

1080p Gaming โ€” Can it drive a 1080p monitor at high/ultra settings in modern games?

What produces the grade. Raster performance index on our 1000-point scale (RTX 4070 = 1000, averaged over 3-5 game benchmarks), with VRAM gates and a cap for architectures that no longer get game-ready drivers.

How to use it. For a 60-144 Hz 1080p display, the cheapest A is usually the smart buy; S means headroom for high-refresh ultra and future titles. C and below means you will be turning settings down.

Easy to misread. Many cards reach S here โ€” that is honest, not a bug: 1080p is an easy target in 2026. Use the Value column to separate them.

1440p Gaming โ€” Can it drive a 1440p monitor at high/ultra settings?

What produces the grade. The same raster index, with a stricter ladder and hard VRAM gates โ€” under 12GB caps at B, under 8GB at C, because texture budgets at 1440p exceed those buffers in current titles.

How to use it. Aim for A or better for a 1440p 144 Hz panel. If a card you like is capped at B, the tooltip names the reason โ€” usually VRAM, which no price cut fixes.

Easy to misread. A high raster score does not override the VRAM cap. That is deliberate: running out of memory causes stutter, which an average-fps number hides.

4K / VR โ€” Can it drive a 4K display, or VR, at 60 fps or better?

What produces the grade. Raster index against a much higher bar, plus a 16GB practical floor and a cap for cards without a modern upscaler. VR is treated as a 4K-equivalent load.

How to use it. Only A/S are comfortable native 4K. B/C are viable with quality upscaling. Below that, 4K is not the right target for the card.

Easy to misread. This column assumes native rendering. DLSS/FSR quality modes move real-world results up roughly one band.

Ray Tracing โ€” Can it run ray-traced games at the resolution you actually play at?

What produces the grade. MEASURED native fps from a ray-tracing benchmark suite (geometric mean of 8 RT titles, no upscaling, no frame generation) โ€” not a synthetic index. Use the resolution buttons above the table to switch context; the tooltip shows all three at once.

How to use it. Check the resolution you actually use โ€” a card can be S at 1080p and C at 4K. B or better is a solid base to add upscaling on top of; D/F means RT is not a realistic option at that resolution.

Easy to misread. These are NATIVE numbers, so they look harsh. DLSS/FSR Quality typically adds ~40-60%, which is exactly why we grade native: it is the honest floor before vendor-specific upscaling.

AI / Local LLM โ€” Can it run local LLMs and diffusion models, and how fast?

What produces the grade. VRAM decides WHICH models fit at all; FP16 tensor throughput (ai_score) decides how fast they run. Both are gates โ€” the tier needs the memory first, then the compute.

How to use it. Start from the model size you want: 24GB+ opens 30B-class models, 16GB is comfortable for 13B, 12GB handles 7-13B, 8GB is quantised-7B territory. Only then compare speed.

Easy to misread. A fast 8GB card loses to a slower 24GB card here, and that is correct โ€” a model that does not fit does not run at any speed. N/A appears where we lack a tensor benchmark (Turing, pro and Arc cards), and N/A never means "bad".

3D Rendering โ€” How fast does it render 3D scenes (Blender Cycles and similar)?

What produces the grade. Measured Blender Benchmark throughput (samples/min), NOT the AI index โ€” path-tracing runs on RT cores via OptiX/HIP/oneAPI, while the AI column measures FP16 tensor work. VRAM is a hard gate because a scene that does not fit cannot render: under 12GB caps at A, under 8GB at C.

How to use it. Render time scales almost linearly with this number โ€” an S card is roughly twice as fast as a B card on the same scene. Then check VRAM against your typical scene size; capacity decides what you can render at all, speed only decides how long it takes.

Easy to misread. AMD and Intel cards sit lower here than their gaming rank suggests. That is real, not a bias: Cycles is fastest on NVIDIA's OptiX backend. N/A means we have no render benchmark for that model, never that it is bad.

Light Use & Efficiency โ€” Is this the RIGHT-SIZED card for office, study and media on a low-power build?

What produces the grade. Board power (TDP) as the efficiency measure, plus a modern video-decode requirement (AV1) โ€” because AV1 streams without hardware decode fall back to the CPU, which defeats the purpose.

How to use it. Read this column as fit, not ability: S/A are right-sized and quiet, C/D are oversized. For a quiet office box, buy the highest tier here that still meets your other needs.

Easy to misread. THE INVERTED ONE. A low grade does NOT mean the card cannot do the work โ€” an RX 9070 XT runs a browser perfectly. It means the card is oversized: you pay for, and power, capability the task never uses. Every other column rewards more muscle; this one rewards the least muscle that suffices.

FAQ

What is the best GPU in August 2026?
There is no single "best" โ€” it depends on the task. The tier columns grade suitability per scenario (S = exceptional, F = not suitable) with price removed; under the balanced value preset the RX 9060 XT currently leads the weighted price-and-capability trade-off (2026-08-25).
How do I read this gpu tier table?
Each column answers a different question, and a grade only means something inside its own column โ€” a card can be S for one use and D for another. Grades come from fixed engineering rubrics (capability thresholds and hardware gates); price is never an input, so the letters stay still when prices move, and the Value column is where today's price enters. Click any scenario header to sort by that tier and recompute Value for that use; click it again to reverse the order. The "What each column means" section below explains every column, its data source and the mistake it invites.
Why does one card show different Ray Tracing grades?
Because ray tracing collapses as resolution rises, and by very different amounts per card โ€” measured 4K-vs-1080p fps ratios across our reference set range from 0.11 to 0.51. A single RT grade would therefore be misleading, so the RT column follows the resolution buttons above the table (1080p / 1440p / 4K) and the tooltip shows all three at once. The grades are measured NATIVE fps with no upscaling; upscaling Quality modes typically add roughly 40-60% on top.
Why does a powerful card score low in "Light Use & Efficiency"?
That column grades FIT, not ability โ€” it is the one inverted column in the table. An RX 9070 XT obviously runs office work and video perfectly; it scores low because it is oversized for the job, drawing hundreds of watts and costing far more than the task requires. For a quiet, low-power build the right answer is the smallest card that still does everything you need, which is exactly what a high grade there means. Every other column rewards more capability; this one rewards the least capability that suffices.
Why can a cheap card show high Value but a low tier?
Price is one weighted Value factor, not a suitability guarantee. A modest card can score well when its price is strong for the selected priorities, while the tier still shows that it is not powerful enough for a demanding task. Read both together.
What does N/A mean?
Not enough data to grade that scenario โ€” usually a missing benchmark index for some parts. N/A is never a failing grade; F is reserved for products that genuinely can't do the task.
